Baking Instructions

  • Preheat your oven to 450°F (232°C). Place a covered Dutch oven inside to heat for 30 minutes.
  • Dissolve the instant yeast and sugar in warm water in a mixing bowl. Stir gently and let it activate for about 5 minutes until frothy.
  • Combine the flour and salt into the mixture. Mix until a shaggy dough forms, then knead for 8-10 minutes on a floured surface until smooth and elastic.
  • Cover the dough with a clean towel and let it proof at room temperature for about 30 minutes.
  • Shape the dough into a tight ball and let it rest on the counter for another 30 minutes.
  • Score the dough lightly with a sharp knife and carefully transfer it to the hot Dutch oven.
  • Bake the bread covered for 30 minutes, then uncover and bake for an additional 10 minutes until golden brown.
  • Cool on a wire rack for at least 10 minutes before slicing.

Notes

Serve with butter or a drizzle of olive oil for added enjoyment.
