Instructions

How to Make Brown Butter Apple Blondies

  • Brown the Butter: Heat the cubed unsalted butter in a medium saucepan over medium heat until golden brown and nutty, about 5-7 minutes. Pour into a heatproof bowl and let cool slightly.
  • Cook the Apples: In the same saucepan, combine diced apples, brown sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Cook on medium heat until apples are tender, about 5 minutes. Set aside to cool.
  • Prepare Dry Ingredients: In a small bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg until no lumps remain.
  • Mix Wet Ingredients: In a medium mixing bowl, whisk together browned butter and brown sugar until well combined. Add egg, egg yolk, and vanilla extract, mixing until smooth.
  • Combine: Gradually fold dry ingredients into wet mixture. Mix just until combined, then gently fold in cooked apples.
  • Bake: Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Pour the batter into a greased and lined baking pan. Bake for 25-30 minutes until the center is set and a toothpick comes out with a few moist crumbs. Cool on a wire rack.
  • Make Maple Glaze: Whisk together confectioners' sugar, maple syrup, milk, and a pinch of salt until smooth. Drizzle over cooled blondies.

Notes

Serve warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream for an extra indulgent treat. Store in an airtight container for up to 3 days at room temperature, 5 days in the fridge, or 2 months in the freezer.
